Would like it wrapped up as soon as possible. What's missing the train for once when you can witness your team lift the trophy? I'd rather splash out on an expensive taxi ride home or perhaps the buzz of winning the title itself would be enough fuel for a long walk home.

an off-topic question for our UK friends.

I heard that Britain made a legislative change in February that made citizenship potential inheritable via mothers (whereas before it was only fathers). That seems fair but...

It was also suggested to me that potential citizens (not actual citizens but potential ones) can no longer get approval for ETA.

does anyone know if this is actually true?

It would have dramatic consequences on tourism because it would effectively bar anyone who is not a British citizen but has a British parent from entering the country.

I'm wondering because my brother has a Canadian friend claiming they were denied an ETA (and therefore denied entry) because they are not British but have a British parent. That seems totally screwy to me. It would effectively bar my entire family!

Fuck. I forgot about Stephan Lichtsteiner.

I've dug out referee Jonas Erikson's comment about him that made me laugh at the time:

" I have met several international players and to judge a person you have to meet them several times - and not just once when they have a bad day, because everyone can have it. But I have met Lichtsteiner several times and he is one of the most unpleasant players I met."

No, definitely not, although City will feel pressure being 5 points behind.

Bournemouth match a real possibility of dropped points.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but we just need to focus on pur own games.

The average attendance for Arsenal Women’s Super League games is all the more remarkable when you compare it to others. Arsenal’s 34682 average home attendance is the only one that makes five figures, the next best being Chelsea on 8299. Amazing! Surely some of that gate money can be used to improve our team so that we can win the WSL!

I'm curious about how we'll approach Burnley. Ideally, out the blocks, relentlessly attacking them, pass to team mates in better position rather than go for individual glory, absolutely no showboating even if we're a few goals up... plenty of time to rest between the West Ham game and this, so I hope the energy levels will be high from the start.

Undoing Vicario's glove velcro at a corner, not because it is vicious and vile but because he correctly knew the drip would blow a gasket and make a massive drama out of it. Yes, one lives in hope. For a n00b in his first ever job, MA has been brilliant. I don't need to castigate him for making what appear to we couch-dwellers to be mistakes, incremental improvements in management seem fair and reasonable expectations for such a smart cookie.
Book balancing is probably one of our biggest threats, since a Ben White gets bandied about for a sale not because he's past it and MA doesn't want him, but because *someone* has to go virtually every off-season in order to continue being able to strengthen other positions. I do worry that Mosquito has been at RB semi-often, when BW has been available (albeit not in peak form).
As I say, hopefully this injury means they can't sell him. HA.

Can’t really agree on this. Mosquera and Salmon have featured at RB (not frequently but enough times), he’s rotated 3 LBs, while Mikel has made significant subs (some forced through injury, granted) in midfield and up front.
The most baffling one is Norgaard who appears to have been available all season but barely featured to take the stress away.

This is where Mikel needs to learn from Wenger - his 2002 and invincibles frequently blew away teams in the first half enough to give some of the more essential players time to come off and save some energy. This seasons Arsenal is too slow to get in front meaning we are full on for the whole 90+ mins. Next season’s Arsenal (if we get that choking trophy monkey off our backs) we will need to adapt to be on the front foot and score early goals.
df504

Maybe after this season, if we get over the line, Arteta will be more inclined to trust his nominal backup players more, especially against weaker teams in the league. All it takes is a spell here and there to rest the first choice, like, we've got Carrott (dead rubber CL) followed by Leeds, White you're going to play those to give Timber a rest. Wigan in the cup, Marli Salmon bring your boots.

Yes but it hasn't only been the league. I realise the psychological importance of getting a "habit forming", precedent-setting trophy or "winning every game" etc but this season it has seemed that every single FA Cup or Carabao Cup or even CL game became a "final" where only the very strongest team would do for MA. As a consequence, we now see some serious burn out with vulnerable physiologies and perhaps even unnecessarily extended injuries. And the back ups are short on playing time.

Problem is you can’t have it both ways if you are mounting a serious title challenge - you can’t afford to drop points and if you see a pre KO line up with a 3rd choice RB when you know at least one of Benny or Timber are fit to play, you’d be doing you nut over it.

It’s a great coach’s dilemma (Wenger’s said it in the past) - play kids and they’ll make mistakes and you’ll ship points but also they need to learn; play your strongest team and you risk injury.

As has been said before any injury issues Ben has now must be in large part down to the number of times he has put his body on the line for us. The mentality monster.

I think the good cover is Mosquera but with the importance of our games this season it’s been difficult to use a back up. We’ve been unfortunate with the timing of injuries. Ideally you’d want both Timber and White to be fully fit at the same time to help each other get rested but it hasn’t worked out like that

RIP Benny Blanco, also my favourite of the Arteta era. I've been sad that he has faded somewhat from the picture and persistent rumours that he was a serious candidate to be moved on this summer are hopefully now scuttled by this injury (glass half full!). I am loathe to criticise Arteta unduly, but I do think it's been unnecessary to sideline BW so much since JT returned to fitness. I know BW has had injury issues too, but Arteta sometimes strikes me as too inclined to play #1 choice all the time, and #2 choice - especially if that player was recently #1 choice - pretty much doesn't play at all outside of domestic cups.
