Of course it helps the sort of striker he is, when Saka goes onto his right/wrong foot and goes outside the defender and crosses from the goal line. It was also notable that Saka was prepared to lose the ball but kept trying and it paid off with our first goal. I don't think that Madueke was actually bad, but we really missed Saka in the second half.

I am a huge fan of the changes in midfield but fullback is arguably the most significant position in football in 2026 and you handicap yourself by picking players that are not good on the ball there. If you’re defending a slim lead and sitting deep there’s no one I’d rather have than Hincapie, but in plenty of games we have needed more control on the ball and more invention going forwards and that’s where MLS/Calafiori might have been of help

Don’t get me wrong Odegaard when he’s on it is one of my favourite emirates players to watch ever, and we have often looked bereft of ideas without him this season as so much goes through him, but I think a ruthless top level club looks at him with clear eyes this summer and thinks it’s time to move on
He’s been an excellent servant to the club, is a great captain, by all accounts a nice bloke, but I don’t think he’s done nearly enough to be irreplaceable
