I would LOVE IT if we win from a set-piece.
That bounces in from Haaland's unnaturally long head. š¤ø
Havertz in midfield or #10 doesn't work. Hope he works at CF today but from what I have seen, he is nowhere close to being physically strong the way he was before the injuries.

Trying so hard to be positive, but even in my slightly trippy state, there's a feeling of inevitability everywhere.

It is very tempting as a prospect for the short corners. We have to keep them guessing and second-guessing
I think there was one game where the combination seemed to work well and everyone got excited about the prospect but since then it hasnāt looked so great
It hasnāt really been given a chance to be fair!
Havertz is a link player and at the moment heās the only one who really looks like he āgetsā Gyokeres movement or ā¦lack of it. He actually makes Gyokeres play on the few occasions theyāve been played together.
https://m.youtube.com/shorts/Gvnt97td8DgAs blogs said: "We need go there and remember the 32 games weāve played before this one, where weāve scored goals, taken more points that anyone else, defended like absolute bastards, and been the team that everyone is chasing."
For all the negative criticism of our play this season, we're where we are because we deserve to be. I know we're going through a relatively bad spell, but we've still progressed in the Champions League despite that.
It seems that we could be like Chelski under the Roman Empire, with 1000 players in the first team squad, and 991 of them would be carrying injuries. I sometimes wonder if the new stadium was built on an old Saxon burial ground, because that's when our fortunes deserted us. But we know that we can beat anyone on our day, so it's up to El Jefe and the players to make it our day.
I disagree. I donāt think they play well together at all. And neither can hold onto the ball

Well in Bruce
Be very lucky
The times theyāve been on the pitch together (which has been minimal) itās worked.
No it hasnāt! There was one moment at the very end of Sporting away, barring that I canāt remember us looking particularly good with both on. It also leaves you with a midfield of Rice-Zubi-Havertz which is technically not good enough and would have no hope of passing through City.
Still, rather see that than the doomed front three we keep playing recently

Wasn't that more of a 442 at the time? I don't remember exactly.

Havertz with Gyokeres and Madueke as the three forward players could work.
Havertz gels with Gyokeres.

I'd 100% play for a 0-0 and nick a goal from a corner if possible. Not suggesting Arteta will do that (who knows?!) but just my opinion. If it ends 0-0 I'll be very happy.
I don't have the mental energy to watch the game live today. So I'll catch the result on here and watch MOTD if we win!
If I had to predict anything - I think it will be a valiant one goal loss. We'll go down fighting, but go down all the same.
But...... who knows. Fingers crossed.
If Gyokeres was anonymous at home against Liga NOS centre backs, how is he going to contribute away against Guehi, Rodri, Dias, Khusanov?

Has to be Havertz. If we rock up with Madueke Nelli Gyok again, there is genuinely no hope
Fair point, still have the Rice corners from the left though. I wonder if he'd be able to take them from the right as well.
Madueke has been really good at his corners, much to my surprise. I was interested by the insistence on short corner variations though vs Southampton which mostly were quite effective or at least "promising". A couple of those against the packed Citeh box might be clever.
Raya
Mosquera/Timber Saliba Gabriel Hincapie
Zubimendi
Rice Eze
Madueke Gyokeres Havertz
Ay, I think selection is key there. If we go with a mix of Gyok, Madueke and Martinelli we're toast.
I don't think Arteta is going to experiment though, or else I'd have Havertz, Eze and Gyƶkeres in the same team with Dowman on the right.

Agreed.
I honestly worry if Trossard and/or Madueke start. Madueke has the strength to defend, Martinelli too, but I don't know who out of those three can make anything of the chances they will get.
Never mind Arteta having a plan, it's up to the midfield and forwards to hold on to the ball and make the most of whatever chances arise. We'll know soon enough how well they'll do in that. Got to tak...

I think our set piece success has more to do with our consistently excellent delivery than th size of the players in the box. With Saka out we are noticeably worse from corners on that side

I just hope Arteta has a plan for how to get out of our own half today.

Not going to the game or not watching at all?
Not watching at all. Currently huddled in the car sheltering from the rain in between games for the eldest at a tournament, so might not make it home in time for kickoff anyway but the combination of how much this means + how fucking shithouse we're playing + how many critical players are missing (either in body or merely in performance) + how much I hate Citeh = cannot watch, too unbearable.

Find it more stressful not watching. My imagination goes bananas ....four of our players sent off...conceded 3 in the first five minutes...season ending injuries to our five key players...Patrick of own goals from our centre back....

Think it would genuinely increase our winning chances to play the big lads at both fullback positions. Simply put, our main strength is still our set pieces. Imagine the line up : Gabi, Saliba, Hincapie, Mosquera, Havertz, Rice, Zubimendi. Martinelli and Trossard for the snap shots during scrambles. I think their makeshift defense will have their hands full.
It reminds me of one of Fabio Vieira's best moments in an Arsenal shirt, the final penalty in the Charity Shield shoot-out against C115y. Slammed it into the roof of the net. Risky, but when it comes off, unstoppable. Omen?
Was quite anxious but just received an e-mail from the Arsenal media team saying "Full Focus"- so I'm alright now.
I delete those poxy emails
Raya
Mosquera Saliba Gabriel Hincapie
Zubi Rice Odegaard
Martinelli Havertz Eze
Is what Iād pick assuming Odegaard is back. We have absolutely no ball progression so one of MLS/Odegaard needs to start otherwise we arenāt getting out of our half. I suspect the manager would rather start a half fit Odegaard than start MLS over Hincapie
I think White has not come close to his best this season, looked poor v City the other week, if Timber isnāt fit Iād say Mosquera is better defensively than White right now but offers 0 going forward (obviously he is a centre back)
Arse.
No way I'm watching this. We're in such laughably poor form, I can't see any way we win and a draw feels wholly dependent on Citeh playing down to our level. All the best to those heading up. ...

Shame they send a full focus one before the Bournemouth game and Forest away for that matter -if they had this afternoon could only have been half focus.
I'd go with Ben White.
As for United, one game a week means you have that extra energy and time to work on the training ground.
And one game a week is generous...
I'd go with Ben White.

I just think Man City will see Ben White as an easy target to put the ball through and in behind. He really doesnāt scan enough. If you watch him closely, he ball-watches far too much. I really like him on the overlap, but for me heās off the pace when defending at the moment.
Yeah, I agree with the single game a week advantage , but all the time in the world wouldnāt fix Man Utd under Amorim. Same squad⦠but a manager who in the space of 6 months has sorted them out pretty well. Yesterday, their passing and movement was really impressive. They controlled the game.

His recent performances have been worryingly far off his usual high level though
Watched Man Utd play yesterday and have to say, they moved the ball around brilliantly. The best Iāve seen them in a long long time. Carrick has really sorted them out. Chelsea were better second half...

We need to see the ball today and not only that, we need to pass and move. If we allow City to control the game again then we are in trouble.
Arteta needs to get the tactics right. If he wants David Raya to have the most touches of the ball again, then heās going to undo all the hard work of the entire season. Not once did the Man Utd keeper feel the need to stand on the ball yesterday.
If Timber is not fit, I honestly would not play Ben White there right now. He really switches off. Mosquera would be my choice.
Would be stoaked if we win
What wood you give for him to be fit?
A tree-mendous question.
Pretty much everything⦠Iām pining for his return!

Feel nervously exhausted. Handling work with watching the match might be a double-edged sword.
Mind you, at some point it threatened to be a lot worse on the work side, so should be easier to combine, with also less risk of fucking up work if too distracted by the gameā¦
Such a good game. Saw the full match. A right ding-donger. Proper cup tie. A welcome distraction last night.
