Always liked Camavinga, accomplished, educated left-foot as they say. Can play at left-back too. I'm more concerned with finding a goalscoring left-winger, a proper technically brilliant striker, a proper goalscoring cover for Saka who can actually run with the ball and a proper goalscoring Number 10 who can be a genuine star. So basically a whole forward line!
Fat Fwank and Coventry are promoted back to the PL...
That was crazy. No short corners or free kicks on Sunday
Amazing sprint tho
Oh yeah, what was that about?

Would be nice to have a serviceable replacement for Rice and Zubi, if MLS won't be used there and Norgaard is not trusted. Would likely cost less than Tonali, albeit a different profile. I feel like it would probably be like signing Noni as Saka cover, but if there's an opportunity there we ought to pay attention.
If Arteta sets us up to get a point, i expect a heavy defeat. Just feel we need to be confident to win the game and take up the challenge.
Show the lads what this club achieved with a 20 yr old in goal at the biggest club in Eng at the time.
My feeling is he will set us up like he did against l'pool. Being extra cautious. Hope I am wrong.
Evening all. RIP Manninger, second ex-player passing from a car accident after Reyes.
So is Declan injured again ? I didn't see him on the film !
I imagine (pray) he's getting extra rest since he played through his illness.

Oh yeah, what was that about?
I get your point but I think they'll squeeze us and we'll invite it regardless of if Martinelli starts.
Fine, but Martinelli's work rate and defensive instincts are up there with the best. He'll be able to help out against Doku. His pace saved us on Wednesday after that suicidal decision to push everyone up and leave a Sporting player free when we had a corner.
Chelsea have beaten Charlton, Hull, Wrexham and Port Vale to reach the FA Cup semi-final stage.
Fuck me! To think we were accused of having an easy route to the semis had we not cocked-up against Southampton.
Nice write-up today Blogs, RIP Alex Manninger π

Indeedy, long story. I'm supposed to be retired. Never been so busy......
I had some very, very strange dealings in that town from about 2010 to 2014.. I hope you enjoy it though! Stay away from New Street...
I see the BBC are resorting to bottom of the barrel, click bait nowadays. Dragging our teams names in order to compete with the mind numbing world of football influencers and social media.

Well in iClassy.
A beautiful and moving tribute to Alex Manninger, Blogs. Thank you for reminding me of that time and his huge contribution to The Arsenal and that triumphant season.
So reading the comments it's either going to be Madueke or Norgaard scoring the winner this weekend.
Heh
So reading the comments it's either going to be Madueke or Norgaard scoring the winner this weekend.
Maybe it's Merino we're missing the most.
We are missing a fully fit Saka the most. Even in this system a fully fit Saka would have given us goals or assists.
Horsham? That's a blast from the past.
Indeedy, long story. I'm supposed to be retired. Never been so busy......
Think with no Saka and Odegaard we need maximum ball security.
Would not be letting Madueke, Martinelli or Gyokeres near the pitch.
Agree with Madueke and Gyokeres. But will start Martinelli at least for his work rate.
So you are opposed to Norgaard false 9? Merino mark II.
Maybe it's Merino we're missing the most.
that's why it's called the Arses, hey?
(coat please!)
:-D
There is no way Norgaard will, or should, start on Sunday

Indeed π
I'll be surprised if he starts him. Think he'll keep him as finisher for this one. But none of us knows what he will do, do be fair, so we're free to keep talking shit all day as usual :-).

with Martinelli's speed and defensive industry I'd be surprised if the manager didn't select him for this one.

Not sure they'll be very scared of either M player on recent showings.
There is no way Norgaard will, or should, start on Sunday
Will be quite surprised if Norgaard starts based on previous this season.
Try as I might I'm struggling to picture a scenario where we can win on Sunday. Draw is just slightly more plausible. Then again you live in hope!
Zubi more advanced with Rice and Norgaard behind him
Forward three of Eze, Havertz and Trossard. Zero pace but not like we do anything quick or counter.

The team will be wearing black armbands on Sunday according to Gunnerblog.
Perfect one today Blogs, thank you.

Hope he comes back soon.
Noni needs to step up.

well spoken, Blogs.

completely agree with this line of thought.
these are our guys and LFG!
Nah, just top of various sorts.
Actually mine were just shorts, though I also had a Highbury jacket but it was off during the session. The other two were worn by physios in fact, for once, not patient...
Nice one! π
Was that Dennis elbowing Iain Dowie?
no, Steve Lomax.....
he pulled his shirt to stop him breaking and Bergkamp absolutely clobbered him......
Heh.. Full kit wanker mode at the physio's? π

Thoughtful blog, Thanks, may he rest in peace
Yep. Alex was from before my time as a Gooner but having read about his exploits for us, I'm very much a fan of his. His contribution towards our double success was immense.
Same.
In other news, confirmed by the more neutral eyes of the physio, my right calf is nearly back to being the same size as the left... I had no idea it could take that long.
Result! πͺ
Didn't see any Atletico gear, but otherwise, all three CL semi-finalists were represented at the physio, heh.

Thatβs a nice piece.
I got very sad after hearing the news yesterday
Manninger often comes up in goal keeping conversations with fellow Gooners because of the fact he did soooo well for us and yet never seemed to get a foothold at any other team.
His enthusiasm was palpable and he was an excellent keeper for us.
Such very sad news that he is now gone but he will 100% live on in the hearts and minds of Gooners who witnessed his abilities and consider his efforts a very large part of our success that year.
Yeah, they definitely should have released something sober and simple quickly first. They can still do update and bigger things later.
Aye. How difficult can that be?
Heartless bastards..

Rest easy Alex M. Forever a part of Arsenal lore. π
Very sad news. RIP and thank you!
I never knew they received special dispensation for Alex to get a well deserved championship medal. That makes me happy.
No me neither. That was classy...
Top blogging. Perfectly eulogised
Sob. A legend taken too soon.
As usual, you perfectly capture the mood re Alex M passing away.
Too young.
Anyway, if you do one thing today, see of you can dig out a recording of Lauren speaking to McCoist on TalkSport earlier
today. I know, I know... but I was at the gym and it was good to listen to.
I want his positivity injected into my veins.
He's right: the pressure is on Man City, not us.
(So much for me switching off for a couple of days).
Lovely eulogy. I remember his puppy-like enthusiasm as well.
I didn't really know Alex -- none of us did.
But he was no total stranger.
It's always sad when someone dies young, and sadder when you have a connection with that person, however distant.
I am reminded of a recent evening trip in Nepal to a Hindu temple ritual. I know that sounds like Islington-wank, but it just happens to be true. So allow it.
On one side of the river were funeral rites and pyres; on my side, a joyous celebration of life. It was an odd contrast, foreign even in the most basic sense of the term, and yet perfectly natural and logical -- and human.
I could see the wrapped bodies steadily coming in, being anointed with the sacred water etc, in preparation for the fires, but I could keep a mental distance, like all the other tourists (mostly Indian).
But then my guide pointed out that that the one directly in front of us was a woman who had died in childbirth. He knew this because the temple official we had earlier seen him speaking to had told him. And then became obvious who the husband was, who the mother was, etc. And I was hit by a wave of deeper sadness because the body was now a person. I could no longer objectify and dehumanise the spectacle before me; I could no longer maintain a clean distance. I now had a human connection.
I feel a little like that about Alex.
RIP Alex. You were brilliant.
I never knew they received special dispensation for Alex to get a well deserved championship medal. That makes me happy.
Upton Park under lights in the Cup, Bergkamp sent off on the half hour for slapping some ginger tosser......
a ridiculous finger tip save, with full 'fist pumping' before that became a thing....
Then the penalty shoot out, even from the other end, he just looked HUGE !!
Speaking with Bob Wilson he felt Alex was the most talented keeper he ever worked with, and was always a source of regret that he didn't perhaps get the career that ability deserved....
RIP Alex, you are a legend....
RIP Alex.
So good in that run in '98.
Just a boy then really.
As well as all the heroics I remember how totally destroyed you looked when, through no fault of yours, a scratch side were beaten 0 5 at home by Chelsea in the Worthless in 98.
Everyone else looked like they were going through the motions you looked like every goal was an painful insult. You really cared.
Not forgotten.
It's also possible (it's happened before), that it's been written and done, and someone forgot to press 'publish', or think they have but didn't, or they forgot to put the page in the right place so it's not visible at all, hidden in the servers somewhere. Still though, I'm sure a) someone should check these things b) a fair few people will have complained by now. So they should have fixed already it if that were the case. Anyway, off to the physio soon. I'm more or less set for Madrid, have the whole of today for the packing, etc. (hoping the 'running 21km in the morning' does not have a bad influence)
Arse,
Awk Alex Manniger. Sad news. But happy memories.
Yeah, they definitely should have released something sober and simple quickly first. They can still do update and bigger things later.
exactly
Yeah, that was always more to do with Italian marble, Art Deco and the Old Etonian flavour in the boardrooms of yore...
:-)
Maybe they're putting something more comprehensive together but it's odd for now
Yeah, they definitely should have released something sober and simple quickly first. They can still do update and bigger things later.
I'm not suprised with anything anymore. Putting things on Musk's tool seems more important.
And I've stopped pretending to believe we have a club with more class than others or anything.

Good blog. Alex was a small but important and popular cog in the history of our club. RIP Alex and may your god go with you. I am a bit upset about lack of response on website however.

I did see a social media post on the official account. I would imagine there will be a minutes silence at the Newcastle game.

Has the .con website stopped being even a semi-serious concern?
Still not any article on Alex Manninger...
Yeah, kind of a surprise
Brilliant tribute Andrew to Alex.
Shocking news, may he rest in peace.
He was an instrumental cog as we clinched the double in ArsenΓ©'s first proper season. He'll never be forgotten for his huge contribution.
On the bright side, the weather forecast for Madrid next week looks fine, hot and sunny.

Well written, Blogs. This is very painful, the '98 season was such a vintage one for many reasons. Young, apple-cheeked Alex alongside other unheralded lesser lights Stephen Hughes or a raw Anelka, then our new wave of international stars and the classic British backline. What a fucking lovely team and time that was.
The wife lived 8 years in Austria and has been reading through all the articles there, including some grim photos of the train that hit his car. Very upsetting. They all only really speak about Arsenal and his Austrian clubs.
RIP <3
