If these cunts knew half the things they claim, they would be working in the industry making loads of money and not pontificating on social media and dressing their opinions up as some kind of deep, insightful secret source knowledge when, in reality, like it is with everyone else, it's guesswork.

Btw, that sequence with Ødegaard passing back and forth three times was with Rice, not Gabriel. And here's one of those nerdy online tacticos with their oh so predictable comments, which shows, not that they understand football, but that they obsess - like some coaches tbh - on this idea of drawing strikers forward like it's all a chess match. Yeah, I get it, but it's a bit nerdy and it is negative.

"If you’ve got any real ball knowledge or have played or coached at a competitive level, you can see what’s happening in that Rice and Odegaard sequence. They’re not even moving much, just passing back and forth, but Odegaard recognizes the two defenders holding space and is waiting for one to commit. By that third pass, one finally steps, and that’s all it takes to open things up. It’s really not that complicated to understand, but the reactions on this app make it obvious who actually sees the game and who doesn’t."

The younger generation must realise this. That could have been a great team, but they were quite literally hacked down in the prime or just before it.

Eduardo, along with Diaby and even Ramsey pre-injury were players who if they’d have stayed injury free would have been legends at Arsenal and likely won us titles.

If those guys had not all been savaged by insanely brutal challenges pushed by that relentless narrative (from pundits as well as managers) that Arsenal were a team of arrogant fancy dans who needed to be chopped down, who know what we might have achieved. Eduardo was a pure goalscorer, as soon as he arrived I knew, he had something of the Luis Suarez swagger about him, just knew where to be and could improvise a strike and had a powerful shot as well. Not to be sadly.

Bad enough Wenger had to deal with the stadium restrictions on spending and Chelsea’s oligarch splashing billions on players Wenger wanted, he had to deal with that as well. I look back and wish I’d been more understanding but I had too many arrogant Chelsea fans bantering me mercilessly. I didn’t handle it well!

good shout. In terms our second tier players pre-injury Eduardo is probably top of the list in terms of pure strikers. His audacious Burnley goal is still one of my favourites.

Vela didn't fully click with us but he really found his niche in the US where his career flourished.

Chu-young... heh. He never really got a look in so it's tough to rate him at all. Might be why he's not on the list. Bendtner's name should probably be on the list though.

I suppose I can speak to the players I watched in my era (i.e., mid '00s onwards). Assigning scores is very difficult but, If I'm being honest, I'd rate Adebayor the highest... 80 goal contributions in 142 appearances is very good and I don't think any of his Emirates era contemporaries or predecessors in your list have put together a season as strong as 07/08.

It's a good film, but the clip is from a film he made in Neapolitan called Ricomincio Da Tre (Starting again from 3), about him as a young man from Naples travelling to the north to experience life and landing in all sorts of scenarios. That was the first film I watched in Neapolitan that had me cracking up laughing. He was a brilliant comic actor, died way too soon at 41 years old just as he'd broken through with that film Il Postino.

There's one passage on the half way line where he receives from Gabriel with back to goal, passes back, receives again, passes back, receives a third time passes back. No defender near him, just the safe option, not even trying, not even aware how stupid it looks, how lame, how showy. Everything about it makes me squirm, because he can plausibly bluff that it's the correct thing to do because he's unsighted and turning would be risking losing it to a defender. But it's just lazy and stupid and tbh I'm tiured of it. He might still be a game changer, I hope he is, we need him. But he's not a winner, he lacks something fundamental in his psychological make-up. I think symbolic or not a team is a reflection of the captain and while this team deserves Gabriel or Rice as captain, what they really deserve is a dynamic, aggressive, highly skilful No 10 who can play decisive passes and score matchwinning or decisive goals when we need it.

I don't think it's about systems. We got the ball to Ødegaard, Madueke and Trossard plenty of times. They just all sucked at doing anything decisive with those balls. They're all several levels off elite and for us it makes a difference in tough games like last night and, yes, even Southampton, not to mention City in the cup final.

Dowman is only 16 but you feel that touch, that awareness, that boldness in his character. To do that at 16 shows bravery above all else. We need that kind of bravery and boldness along with the skill in our attack right now.

Neither last night's match nor the Soton one were easy matches. Both away against teams that haven't much lost at home. And Soton followed it up by pounding Wrexham. They may well be in the PL next year.
So, while I'd have preferred two wins, I'll take the one we got, as that was the bigger one.

Afternoon folks. Well in Brucie.
I think for some time we've been having a dereliction of duty problem in midfield, which has caused our struggles recently.
Last game for example, many times in build up I've noticed a huge gap in the middle vacated where Zubimendi or Ode should be. Instead, both of them took turns taking the ball next to the center backs, giving back or sideway passes instead of progressing the ball when openings present, and refusing to receive the ball under pressure or in the center.
It was mainly Declan that showed proprr incesiveness and progressive passing for a long stretch, and who didn't look like he'd shit his insides if he was harrassed and pressed. Later on Ode did have some semi-good sequences higher upcthe pitch, and I understood his tendency to wanna help out seing how scared shitless Zubimendi seemed to be, so I'm a little more understanding of Ode in retrospect. But Zubi I'm really disappointed in recently. Needs to buy himself some cojones cause he's really been soft ever since that mistake in the Utd defeat.

Why is this? I'm genuinely intrigued and interested cos I don't understand how we've gone from a team against whom opponents couldn't get a shot on target to this nervy bunch where one pass can split our midfield and defence wide open. That's been happening too often against almost every team we play against.

Why is Zubi dawdling on the ball so much and why does he pass back all the time? It's become a safety blanket, and I think this tendency contributed to his catastrophic mistake against Utd. If he was minded to go forward, there's less chance of playing himself, the defenders and the team into trouble.

Havertz credited Gyökeres for creating the space that allowed him to receive Martinelli’s pass. Can’t say a striker with 15 goals and maybe 11 games to play is a wrong purchase. Maybe blogs is right his movement isn’t great. But when he receives a ball that allows him a bit of room to strike, more often than not you’ll get a goal. The AMs are more than capable of finding him. They’re stubbornly refusing to play those balls over the top or from the flanks into feet. It’s not over yet, but the failure to use Gyökeres or any striker tbh by feeding them is for me a mark against Arteta’s mode of football. Worked perfectly last night thanks to great goalkeeping and a perfect finish. But the style of football is ugly, no one should use the opposition - whether Sporting or Southampton - to excuse that. These players are capable of better. Arteta has to be given credit for making three attacking subs. I just wish that he focuses on being bolder for the next two league games. I’m sure it’ll pay off and i still think Gyökeres will make a difference if he starts and stays on.

oh shit :-(
Mine has been up and down lately, but this week has seen forward progress again (and the right that seemed in danger of going the same way seems to be holding out OK).
Had physio this morning, just focused on hamstring/quads strengthening.
I've been lucky that nothing totally fucked up, so even in the past four months of struggling with that, I never totally stopped training.
I'm planning to run a half-marathon (just the distance, not a 'competitive/official' one) this week or next (more likely next, as the hanami celebrations complicate things in the park with too many people around), so that I'm done with that and can focus on trying to play football again. Tendon generally a little sore after running, but no bad reaction to a flat 15k on Sunday and a more hilly 7.7 yesterday so I may be on the right track again!

Hope your issues get fixed quickly and you can train again soon.

I was saying last night that with Ode dropping all the way into our defence to pick up the ball, would it be such a bad thing to ping a ball over the top for him to run onto? He's always on the shoulder and they were really high up, so why not just play long even once or twice. It's why we spent all this money on Gyok and he gets zero of the service he needs to be effective. I mean, Ode's no Pirlo or de Bruyne, but surely it wouldn't hurt to try. It's like he flat out refuses to try that out of fear of being chastised by the Calm One.

unbelievably mature performance, controlled large swathes of the game, and if you need to see why, check out the couple of times they got to counter us to see how dangerous they can be..
Rice ??!? Wow, he's like a cheat code, it's like having 12 on the pitch...
but has anyone committed 7 fouls in 90 mins of CL football and not been booked ? ( i'm guessing Puyol )
4 in the first 25 mins, Mads was great last night !!
But i love how if an Arsenal keeper makes some saves, it's as if somehow we've diddled the oppo..... yet when Donarumma dropped a worldie against us last year, it's 'well that's what top keepers do'
fair shout on Raya for POTS though, and we looked a completely different beast with hime and Rice back in the team.....

And lo & behold, Oliver get's to f'ck us Saturday.....

Bit unfair. His first touch can be heavier, but he has a variety of finishes from even awkward positionings. But I struggle to remember more than a single pass into him all game. I get that perhaps it's down to Arteta playing a compact game, but Madueke for all his business rarely managed to get a directed pass into the box. Trossard was struggling to find space and Ødegaard was doing his usual deep quarterback thing which looks impressive spraying balls out wide, but rarely did he look to get into that central area outside the box (Zone 11 I believe?) where the final pass to the striker can be key. Martinelli did just that and Havertz was waiting. I will say also that Arteta keeping Gyökeres on (maybe only because Ødegaard took a knock?) was reassuring. And Dowman was keeping Araújo busy as well (who was a menace all game), so that final four for me gave me more excitement and anticipation from the moment they were on than for the rest of the game where I just get frustrated watching the three they replaced look busy without really doing anything substantial.

When he cut inside, the way he repositioned himself and the ball to go forward caught everyone out. It was the kind of aggressive, direct play we had needed all night and it came at the perfect time. Great touch and finish for Havertz as well.
