It was so stupid and unnecessary because he had a good view of the situation compared to Gabi.

This latest snatching a draw from the jaws of victory might finally snap the manager into action. He's been inflexible for too long. If he's finally going to try MLS in midfield, he could have given him a few cameos here and there in games where we were leading comfortably or against weaker opposition.

White to take much needed minutes out of Timber.

Noorgard, Noorgard, Noorgard... what a fucking shit show of mismanagement. Zubi is off the pace, and understandably so. Noorgard could have played against Leeds and Sunderland when the games were done.

That second half performance was rancid. Too many of our players become "crabby", both in attitude and execution. Timber and Zubi in particular, closely followed by Rice, Jesus, Martinelli and Noni.

"System football" has its limits. Players can't improvise and react to how the match is evolving. Where's the autonomy? Arteta should take a leaf out of Sleegers's book and involve the players in coming up with means to hurt and nullify the opposition.

Norgaard should have got more games. There really is no reason to play Rice every game and bury him.

We do not need two defensive midfielders for games against relegation fodder. I've been saying this for two seasons now, but it goes to my point of Arteta being shit scared and treating every team we face as though they're Cruyff's Netherlands.

Kind of funny, that. When we bought Raya, Andrew Allen said Arsenal finally achieved it's goal of playing 11 midfielders. The problems are mental, not technical.

And I don't think the injuries to Odegaard and Saka have been incidental to this. And we need Jesus or Havertz healthy. We can't fuck around with Gyok anymore. I actually like him as a player, but he doesn't fit this team.

It hurts to see, but Arteta has instilled caution over fire and tbh he hasn't bought well in attack. I hope I'm wrong but tonight was so predictable. So easy;y avoided but we let it happen. As shit as he was when he was on, that was a premeditated assault on him. If Gabi or Saliba has done that to one of their forwards, we wouldn't have heard the end of it and we would have had their crowd baying for a red card. Disgraceful refereeing.

Arteta has done so much for this club. genuinely a man of principle and determination. But this is looking like a man who has reached the end of the line. He has to do something drastic and he's had lots of opportunity in the past few games and all he could come up with was playing Saka at N 10 where tbh other than the goal he did nothing. Eze should have been at 10. But Eze did little as well.

A lead which has been absolutely scythed in the last several weeks... and we've had seasons of this team being top and faltering during the business end.

Just going to conveniently ignore this?!

Stop saying that myth. They have the world's best striker and the world's best GK and a host of Ams who would all get into our team. When they win the league, everyone will say they are as good as past teams. That's how teams are regarded, not by the opinion of others but by what they achieve. They are hunting us down and we're bricking it. No other way to see it. because we are simply not good enough. Sorry.

The anger is also fuelled by the points being dropped - we've taken 2 points from Wolves. Wolves who have 10 points and sit rooted at the bottom of the table.

20% of their points have come from Arsenal. Arsenal with the best defence in the Premier League!

Fuck that stings.

Our attack has not gelled this season and we've all hoped it would click on the home straight. It hasn't

I don't fancy this team against a new manager spurs and a chelsea side looking to dent or possibly end our title hopes.
Yes we can blame players but ultimately they seem to have had all initiative and creativity sucked out of them with this tedious system.
Arteta has to carry full responsibility for recent performances and this shockingly boring brand of football. And if we don't win a major trophy, not counting the league cup, then he has to go.

We should be honest and say that we still aren’t creating chances.
Sakas goal was good but should have been cleared/claimed.
Hinc’s goal was the only through ball we managed too.
Besides that; fuck all. Gyokeres must have touched the ball three times in the first half

Every single player taking a slating here. The mentality is bred top down. Playing in the margins, squeaking a result because we practiced our set pieces. Very little concern about actual attacking patterns and putting games to bed.

Manager needs to fix this or walk and I don't believe for a second he will change. This is who he is.

Madueke is just so messy on the ball a really average player, an athlete no doubt but no control. It makes sense that Saka was his childhood mate and maybe had a hand in bringing him to Arsenal but just no class.

Same with Martinelli, great athlete, 100% effort but no guile. And then there’s Gyökeres, clumsy and slow to react as ever. How we are gonna win anything with such a guileless attack I just don’t know. We should be 4-0 up but inviting them back in.

At this rate we’re gonna blow the title cos Wolves are our easiest tie. They’re not even defensively tight we’re just horribly wasteful, Saka, Martinelli, Madueke and Gyökeres.

Bring Eze on ffs, at least he has some guile. That attack is like watching robots!

Rice is not an attacking/creative midfielder. It's so frustrating to see him play left eight in games like this.

We treat every opponent as if they're peak Barca instead of swatting aside 70% of teams; we turn what should be straightforward games into a slog.

You do get that it goes way beyond City and Chelsea? They're the sharp end of the symptom and the cause is capitalism and whether some refuse to accept it, it's also the reason that structural racism is embedded into that and why, despite the exasperation and calls to do more after yet another racist incident on the pitch, nothing much can or will be done while we live in a system (which football is part of) which is by its nature exploitative and discriminatory.

And of course there are dilemmas for all of us because of the sheer artistry and athletic ability which has us entranced. I watched Vinicius Jr's goal, just sublime, up there with the best, the balance, the execution and then of course the flamboyant celebration. This is too much for some.

I get that for the opposition that can be provocative, but why the particular reaction? Because the world is steeped in it right now and no one seems really sure what to do. Fuck if Fifa or Uefa are equipped to deal with it or any corporate body. It runs through their systems and society and all the time the clubs are more concerned with ways to keep squeezing the fans for more cash.

And, yes, Arsenal are part of that and we can excuse it as them "having to keep up" and of course we love our club, but apart from the usual discussions, we're not any nearer to solving this in football or in the world.

Still, all that aside (as you do), big match tonight, I'll go for a front four of Trossard, Gyökeres, Eze and Madueke with Saka the superb getting back some fitness!

You can blame Chelsea and ¢115eh for that. Yes we do spend a shitload but we're really just trying to keep up. It's they're free reign spending that's driving it and if, in the end, the 115 charges don't land then good night Irene

Your reaction/revulsion is completely understandable.
Like you, I could barely comprehend that this was actually (still) happening in 2026 but this fucking “thing” doesn’t ever seem to go away. Some very small consolation might be derived from the fact that there are, at least in football, some mechanisms now in place to confront and expose it which, I’m sorry to say, seem to becoming less obvious in wider society. I mean a bunch of racists is leading the UK opinion polls right now and check this kind of sentiment out

https://www.gbnews.com/news/migrant-crisis…

As far as going to the Arsenal is concerned, I think we may be “luckier” than some given were we are from, the history of our fans and the general make-up of the present crowd - some glaring historical screw-ups notwithstanding (e.g. remember the mural?)
Admittedly I’m old school but I personally find the match day experience extremely mild in comparison to say, the 70s/80s; nowadays comparable to any municipal event and probably a lot less threatening than I dunno, a fair or a free concert?
Anyway I guess I’m essentially encouraging you to go if you can - you’ll be fine and despite the exorbitant cost of everything and the difficulty obtaining a ticket there’s nothing like seeing the boys perform right in front of you and cheering them on with your tribe.

Outside of the occasional pre-season match, I don't watch football live cos I can't be dealing with the stupid aggression and general unpleasantness, with the possibility of racial abuse. That's a conscious choice so I don't want anyone to feel bad for me, but I'm just not going to put myself in a situation of dealing with utter bellends, both in football and wider society.

Morning all.

Have to win tonight, full gas from the first minute, no let up and get the game done.

As someone who is directly impacted by season ticket rises, I don't want to see prices going up, but I also live in the real world. We sign very expensive footballers and pay them high wages, that money has to come from somewhere. TV money is one thing, but that has maybe reached its peak, people are switching away from broadcasters and that won't have gone unnoticed when TV renewals come around. Also, the owners want a return on investment, not being paid out every year, but increasing the value of the club and increasing all revenue streams does this. As I said, I am paying out for these tickets (x2!) and I'm lucky to be able to do so, but there's no amount of pressure from supporters groups that will change this, this is pure sports capitalism at work.

If I decide not to renew, it means I decide not to go to games anymore, though I could come to London to go to the pub to watch the games and meet people pre/post matches, but I know it's a theoretical idea that may not appeal so much as a practical regular thing in reality (the idea behind is not giving any more money to the football club, far more than not wanting to attend matches).

I see it says no reduction.
But how will that work with the ballot?
And also does it mean they would feel entitled to be arseholes and try to enforce sitting in non safe-standing areas?
Lots of unanswered questions for now I suspect.

ollie @ 07:40 | Feb 18, 2026
I'm still mostly confused by the safe standing, as most of the lower tier (certainly North Bank and Clock End) is already de facto standing and pretty safe.
Also still unclear if it reduces the capacity as I thought the initial proposal had stated.
