What are we supposedly best at? cornalties.
What happens more often than not when you take distance shots that don't go in but deflect off defenders? cornalties.

It doesn't seem like rocket science but here we are.

Mrs, at the end of the day it's football, there are more important problems in this world than a football team being almostsuccesful, not quite good enough to fulfill their potential and win some big competitions. That's always going to be the ultimate reality check.
Measured and reasonable enough to your liking? And yet two hours ago I had a couple replies removed here for going on unhinged tirades of mindless verbal abuse (sorry to those were exposed to it btw).

At the end of the day, we all know this football thing is not a "reasonable" passion to have. Maybe it gives some a reprieve from their everyday stuggle, maybe there's some vicarious validation because some identify so much with this club, maybe some get reminded of their painful personal failings when their team self-sabotages one more time.... there's many reasons people are this emotional about such an unimportant thing. But emotions are not a bad thing inherently, and it's generally better to not repress them.

I mean to be fair I can’t think of the last proper captain (I don’t count Auba) who has been yanked this many times. It does not help that Eze is not pulling up trees when given the chance.

It does feel as though the personnel may not be the issue, could be that the coaching staff and manager are letting the players down. I wonder if there are any real leaders in the squad who are willing to call it what it is and allow them some more freedom when it's required.

I could see Arteta dropping Haaland and Salah for not putting in enough defensive work.

Yet another thing they aren't allowed to do. Shoot from distance/edge of box.

The pass out wide from the edge of the box is infuriating, yet it's symptomatic of this team and its buck-passing.

I hate to come here after a defeat like this, but I've been saying this for a long time: this Arsenal team under Arteta does not know how to attack. I don't buy into the psychological analysis of PL title race pressure and all of that. This team's identity is not based on attacking, free-flow, fluid football. They can hardly pass the ball forward. How can you get frustrated from the attack today, if this is always how we play? This is an upgraded version of Stoke. The only difference today is that we conceded 3 goals. But we scored 1 Own Goal and another 1 from set piece. A casual day for the Arsenal.

Do we play better in the Champion League? Yes. Admittedly I don't know why. But clearly we are struggling in the PL for some reason, and this has been the case for three consecutive seasons.

The occasional great performance can't mask over this. And our good performances are based on a high-intensity physical game. We never outperform teams in terms of creative play. We just don't.

We should be worried that Saka has not hit the next level, and has even regressed. We should be worried that Eze comes in and looks bereft of confidence. We should be worried that our recruitment in the attacking positions has been incredibly disappointing. We should be worried that since we let Zinny go, lacking that inverted full back who pulls the strings from the back, we look bereft of ideas. We should be worried that we rely so much on set pieces.

You can make the argument that with a more solid defensive performance, we score two goals and snatch a narrow win. Okay. But isn't this what we've been trying to do for the past 2.5 seasons? It remains to be seen if this will win us a title. In any event, it's boring as hell.

We can all accept losing if the game is exciting and good football but to lose playing the turgid non-football we are producing this season is beyond the pale.

Yes we are still top but everyone around us is performing sub-par as was the case last season and that helped Liverpool win the league, albeit playing better football, but look at them now.
My fear is that if we do a Devon Loch our better players may well want out.

I will probably be a lot more level headed tomorrow but the manner of the defeat is frustrating.

Something flying under the radar I just remembered, since we're airing out our grievances. We have had a very weak performance against top teams this year. Draw and loss vs Pool, draw vs City, draw vs. Chelsea, a win and a loss against Villa and Manure. Only positives so far are Newcastle and Spurs, although their positions in the league make it a stretch to consider them "top" teams. In the past title races with Arteta, we've had the upperhand against most of the top dogs, this year we've been really disappointing. I dunno if a team with that record can go on to win the league.

How much pace has Saka lost compared to 2-3 seasons ago? Don't think we can have 2 "slow" forwards on either side of our striker. If one winger has to be a creator, the other winger needs to be excellent in 2 things at least " pace and goalscoring" to complement the striker.

These are all Arteta's players, the fact that so many of the attack are not functioning, you have to look at what is dictating that, and that's the manager.

If it were just the odd attacker not playing well, you could maybe blame that individual. But there is an apparent collective malaise about our attack that has persisted for nearly the whole of Arteta's time here.

Zubi has done that several times, not so much a fluffed pass but just not appreciating the hustle of the PL and that there are ALWAYS players closing you down and closing in on the 'keeper when you receive the ball away few metres outside of the box. Reminds me of what Özil said about the PL vs La Liga, in Spain you go 2 goals up as a big team and 90% of the opponents will go into damage control mode and try to hold you to max one more goal. In the PL, every team.keeps attacking, keeps running, and YOU need to keep running and never let up. Zubi has got to wake up to the everpresent danger of receiving the ball from your keeper in this league.

It's not fluid, it's not real attacking play. It's zonal pressure, it's squares and expectation of working it to the byline and percentages of players running in. We play attacking football like a set-piece. No imagination, no triangles, no confident passes to team-mates. All wait, was it, wait or run with the ball. expecting pace will be enough. Make no mistake, this is data-led football attack and quite frankly it's ugly to watch and more to the point ineffective. Attack needs imagination and there is no imagination here and tbh the quality of players is lacking too.

It’s also the type of player. Players need to be courageous. I also cant imagine the manager saying “don’t make a direct pass”. I think the general safety first approach to defence means that players have internalised this and don’t take chances.

But when I watch the games, it’s the players not making the passes and runs they should.

I can easily pin it on many players. Madueke can't seem to run with the ball without it running away from him. Awful control. A very average, far too expensive player. Gyökeres was a little better but still nowhere good enough. And Eze, I've been kind because his arrival was exciting. But he's been so disappointing since the Spurs hat-trick. Another nondescript performance. No one in the attack did enough, barely any proper link up play, just running with the ball and waiting, waiting, waiting, for the Hollywood ball.

Just got back home from my bro's. We've all agreed the household is now a bad luck place to watch the matches, Gutted. Popped into the local Tesco's to get some biscuits for my tea. Felt like I was about to have a breakdown in the shop. Everything got noisy, everyone was getting on my nerves, was getting light-headed. One of my worst football nightmares come true, sucker-punched by United, even got a banter what's app message from my cousin in Milan.

Oh Arsenal, oh Arteta, why do you do this to us? you can't win the league playing percentage football. Tbh, the changes were brave, but the players who came on were just not up to it. And we're still four points clear. If ever there was a silver lining. But something drastic has to change in attack. We play as individuals, no interplay. What's happening?

Still need to calm down...

It’s overthinking. Trying to be too clever for the opposing team.

We are too focused on not making mistakes at the back.

Saliba has folded a bit under pressure but our winning strategy cannot be faultless defence. It is putting too much pressure on the backline to be perfect and not enough on creativity.

We need a shift.

Big squad? Key players like Odegaard and Zubimendi are not playing well... Trossard blows hot and cold

Gabi Jesus can't be relied on to carry the attack.. the less said about Gyokeres the better... Saka getting rinsed every game including meaningless games like the one against Inter midweek... Absolutely no need for him to play almost the entire 90 mins vs Inter

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Ode is simply not cut out for this level. Mid-table and battling for the top four, he’s perfectly serviceable, but he can not cope at this high octane level of performance and, crucially, expectation. I’m more than ready to move on from him in the summer.

As for the manager. What the actual fuck does he do with our attackers in training? He’s drained them of all confidence, self-belief, and ability. These are his players, and for whatever reason, the manager seems pathologically incapable of building a functioning and fluid attack.

We have defenders playing up front and attackers putting in monumental defensive shifts. How about you stop trying to reinvent the football wheel and have the attackers attack and the defenders defend? There’s a reason it has worked that way for so long.

We’ve not scored a goal in the PL for three games in a row now, and the fact that Own Goal is such a significant contributor to our goals is laughable.

But really, I’m just thoroughly sick and tired of seeing these attacks under Arteta routinely fail. I can see a new manager simplifying things and allowing the attackers to attack with some freedom. This is like prison football.

Up until this point, we have choked and passed up every opportunity to push on.

We as a fan base should not be annoyed at anyone calling us bottlers because that’s what we’ve done up until now.

We win the league to prove them wrong. Otherwise we shut up.

Probably heading over for the Viaplay Super Sunday shite. Schmeichel and Jaap Stam will be there, unapologetically all in on United, Ljungberg will be anything but sticking up for Arsenal in response. Feeble twit. Petit has started saying "we" at least, when he's invited as I suspect he'll be today.

Yeah. On the PL side - to my surprise - the last two seasons produced record goals totals. And this season seems on track for 1000+ goals as well. I assumed the PL's become more conservative, but those are tough numbers to argue against.

It's interesting that the CL used to be the more cagey "tactical" competition and now it's flipped.

The only person who can get Martin Ødegaard to operate further forward is the captain himself. If he starts to faff around in his own half we'll be wasting a position.

This is a tough one. I'm nervous cos it's Man Utd and they have their tails up and they always want to beat us. Another draw is no good, we have to win. I can see an argument for either Gyökeres or Jesus. I'm gonna have to trust Arteta on this one, his decisions will be key and I think whoever's picked will be focused and hopefully in the zone!

Come on!!!
