Only one match from top 13 is a head to head (PSG v Barcodes). Even the goal difference is close so wins for all teams on 13 points won’t necessarily be enough to reach top 8.

We are guaranteed top2. Just a draw needed at home v 36th placed Kairat top finish top, but 8 wins from 8 sends a strong message that we are so hungry for more this year.

Watched the 1st half of Bayern - USG just to see how their attack acquits itself against a lower level opponent. They looked as out of ideas as our worst against a low block. The chance of the half was a free header inside the box by the USG striker, which he placed straighy down the middle. Bayern could've easily been down a goal and the amount of intercepted passes, counter attacks they conceded really doesn't speak to a team capable of winning the CL. Their best (only) chance was, get this, a header by their RB from a corner. Looks like the fabled Bayern attack isn't all it's made out to be.

Barcelona have 10 after 6 but have two really easy games and will most likely have the same points but with a better GD.

So even if City win their last game there are at least three teams who will finish ahead of them if they win both of theirs.

I think although we lose a bit of transformation protection due to his lack of pace he has been excellent. Re Eze I think this is what he is a low touch but better goal threat. I like that fact he does not do an ode and drop back deep if the ball drops at the edge of the box I want him there. He will score more goals and I want that position to be a goal threat. I also think he will eventually start on the left when Trossard goes.

Listeners of the brilliant Three Bean Salad podcast will know about pomelos.
They are large citrus fruits with very thick (like 1cm thick) peel. I first learned of their existence on my year off in Israel in 1991. They're good, but I'm not sure the ones we get in the UK are great.

So... will Infantino be installed as leader of Venezuela or Greenland in Trump's dystopia? It must be smelly and very unpleasant up the old orange git's arse, so I expect that our Gianni will expect something for crawling up it.

Maybe the plan is to stop all the nations around the world from attending the competition, which will then be renamed the "World Series Soccer Championship" and the USA will be the world champions! I mean, if fans from certain countries won't be admitted to the USA, why should the players?

Maybe, just before games against the USA, the opponent's players will be carted off by ICE, and that country will forfeit the game?

It's a strong case that can be made that nothing really has changed. But equally, you can argue that there has been progress and yet we're still fighting the same battles and the same corruption. It feels like make or break. The League of Nations failed and led to the Second World War. The United Nations probably never really worked, but now it's clear it's toothless and the world is aware now. But even then, there have been remarkable people working there. For me, what Francesca Albanese has been doing as the UN special rapporteur will go down in history. Humans do care and you see it in the protests in Israel and the many groups in the US. I dare say the same is true in Russia and China, though that's harder to distinguish. We just have to keep going. Maybe we'll never have world peace, but we can keep believing we can see better days. I still believe in humanity. Incremental steps over decades.

What do you mean centuries past? It's the history of the world and still carried out today. Nothing has changed and it's seen as a winning formula, Britain, France and other European countries still have ''territories'' that we will not give up.

Look at the Palestinian territories being ethnically cleansed as we speak, look at Ukraine being decimated, look at Sudan and Yemen being used as pawns by the UAE to redraw the power base in the region.

This is not whataboutery this is fact and it is not distant history it is happening all the time but some choose to remain blind to it until it affects them.

I'm not sure how the "unrealistic left" affect him in any way. He's culled most of his critics on the left. The debacle of the creation of "Your Party" and the childish and destructive spat between Corbyn and Sultana has more or less ended any hope for that party. But Zack Polanski's presence has been refreshing and many of his policies seem like good social democratic principles. But of course he gets called "unrealistic" as well. Absolutely true, but that's why the League of Nations and then the United Nations was set up. Sure, it always favoured the most powerful countries, but the framework for a genuine democratic world, where universal ideals and principles are formulated and shared is a good one. But the brutal legacy of colonialism has always been there and it's simply unmasked itself with Trump. I will continue to hope and believe that this is the last scream of a dying monster. It may still get worse, but as a great American once said, the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.

Another 11 goals from him (let's say 7 of those are in the league) would pretty much ensure we're winning something this season. For all the criticisms of our three strikers, they all have very different profiles, from the impish, energetic skills of Jesus, the positional play of Havertz and the strength and determination of Gyökeres. If we can get all three to offer 10 goals each over the next 30 games, we're pretty much there. That's a big target, but they are capable.

Bit difficult for certain European countries to criticise land theft and occupation due to our history of some of the most brutal Empires. Trump is basically doing what we have done for centuries, bullying and dismissing weaker economic and military countries and taking whatever we damn well pleased.
Occupied six counties anybody?

We also need to remember what the US is.
It is the culmination of European colonisation that was built on a genocidal foundation over centuries and the power base and mentality is pretty much unchanged. Certain groups of people have only been given equal rights in living memory, and there are people who would love to see them taken away.
look at a majority of the presidents and representatives, good old Anglo-Saxon god fearing white men and you start to realise that the US is nothing but a continuation of empire.

The Carney seems super impressive so far, in general Canada is standing up to the U.S in ways no other has dared. Premiers removing U.S products from their province when the production plants are moved from Canada back to the U.S, and Carney signing this massive contract with China for electric vehicle production. Previously Canada supported the U.S. in keeping that door closed, as it would kill the U.S auto industry. Now he sees that tariffs and bullying are what lie in store from Trump, so he opens the door to China by slashing EV tariffs from 100% to 6.1%, creates a massive influx of jobs for his own country and as Chinese EV production is considered the best of all countries today, he is fucking Trump hard like a real leader.

We have to tread carefully in this Gramscian era of monsters.
Bullshit walks, money talks in this era of hard power.
We have to tread carefully and do many things on the hush-hush. We also have to recognise that a many-headed creature like Europe is no match for single-headed superpowers.
Trump is right about one thing: much of Europe has long taken the cost of security for granted and not paid its dues.
Culturally, for historic reasons, they are just not ready for the next stage.
Countries like Spain (sorry compadres), Ireland (don't shoot the messenger), Italy and Belgium (the last country is perplexing), for example.

Trump's revenge would be considerable. It would also be the end of world football, for a time. So it's high risk.
Putin on one side, Trump on the other.

I don’t think it’s a distorted memory. When that team of Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Ljungberg, Vieira were at their best, they were sensational in a way teams before and after have rarely matched. There were some lesser in those teams, and yeah some games where it didn’t click. But we remember the peaks and the peaks were pretty special.

Had a very strange evening. Was at a funeral in London for old friend’s mother who died recently. Seem to be going to more and more funerals these days. And I rear ended a car in traffic on the way, bumped him enough to crack his bumper and a slight crack to mine. Not great, but could have been worse, and at least Arsenal won and Gyökeres scored. Nice fox in the box goals from Jesus too.

Some fabulous comments last night BTL on The Guardian' s C115 match report. This was a corker, to which BenZed will attest:-

'So City rock up to this strange stadium where many of the fans aren't even protected from the weather, to play an inferior team, a club that isn't taken that seriously and lose by a couple of goals. And now it's happened again three days later...'
