Morning all! Raya's saves this season have been out of this world. I must have repressed the memories of all the scares we had causz some of the saves I'd completely forgotten :
https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/…It's the goal where he stuck his leg out to score a last-gasp winner against ManUre.
I remembered it being last gasp but not against whom.

As Mae West said "I never said it would be easy,I just said it it would be worth it"
The top 4 teams have failed to win only 3 of the last 20 games they have played in total. This is going to be hard.
I went to play the link, and it told me that the video isn't available in my country. Fortunately, I am using the Vivaldi browser which has a built-in VPN which I switched on, and in the free version,...
Unfortunately it didn't play for me as I have Safari much to everyone's despair but it's so less clunky. Was this this the time Eddie first came on for the senior team and scored that that late goal. I've always had a soft spot for him.I remember one of the commentators saying that he was reputed to always score a goal when brought on a sub in junior matches and lo and behold he did.
Ah, no Cash and Karama for Villa on Tuesday.
Both are suspended due to 5 yellows each!
I went to play the link, and it told me that the video isn't available in my country. Fortunately, I am using the Vivaldi browser which has a built-in VPN which I switched on, and in the free version, it's pot luck, but they connected my via Los Angeles, USA, and the video played!

Good point from blogs regarding the lack of certain subs - Madueke and Eze especially. Thats a 100 million investment that needs to work. I just worry about further injuries to our regulars.
Come on Eagles 🦅. Savage the cock 🐓.
Now for the Eddie equaliser!
FBS—like Arsenal in recent games—Final Ball Syndrome.
Yep. And now spuds look like they've scored again...VAR looking at it.....
Heh, disallowed
VAR checking. Could be off.
Palace are by far the better team.... Eddie well lively since coming on

Eddie on to save the day.
Wanker ref......we have him on VAR on Tuesday
Even the Spuds fans chants are crap!
Spuds are lucky that West Ham, Burnley and Wolves are crap this season otherwise they could be fighting relegation
It will be tight. They have only won one in six games. I can see a total collapse. Frank is wank.
They will likely be in a relegation battle. Worst spud team I have had the misfortune of seeing in decades.

Yes. Bergvall was off in the build up.
Spuds score. Time for the inevitable implosion.

VAR could rule it out. LOL.

If we can beat Villa, we'll be on 45 points after 19 games, so on course for a 90 point season with a load of nasty away games done.
Heard that during 23/24 after 19 games we were on 40, before that crazy run where we only dropped 5 more points in the back 19 games. Still wasn't enough, wish that bald cunt would just fuck off and go play with his dirty money.
Remember spurs are playing?
Maybe I don't fucken give a shit. Maybe I don't remember the last time I blew my nose either
Heh, very true. His Mrs probably said 'let's get the fuck out of here, anywhere, even Sunderland."
Sounds about right 😅

Mashed and roasted, even better.
His response to that Fabregas backheel would've been interesting. Probably tie him to the corner flag and give the coaching staff a bucket of rotten tomatoes.
Haha I instantly knew what you were referring to, such trauma.

Six consecutive games with a goal. times his runs perfectly, very good in the air. Classic centre forward, shame he looks like Russell Brand.
Tuesdays game against Villa could be a defining moment for this season. It could be the game where our luck runs out or we have a statement win by stuffing Villa and charge on. I'm looking forward to ...
Against Villa - we have to win the midfield this time. They carved us open so many times last game. We def lost control of the midfield
which put pressure on the back. Not cohesive enough. We also sat back too deep in the latter part of the game.
I would also not start Gyokeres in that particular game because if we are not going to play the ball through for him to run on to, then he is rendered ineffective. He’s struggling to get away from defenders, create space, get on the end of crosses or hold the ball up.
Either we change tactics to suit his style or we bench him.

No real point in lamenting the Vik transfer for this season. We're likely to be stuck with him for a while, and I really feel it's too premature to write him off at this point. He has been dominant before, even if in Portugal, and he should be able to contribute a respectable amount at the very least. Aside from the reciprocal adaptation between him and the team and the stress it independently can cause, this slump and the growing questions about his ability are obviously getting to him. I hope the psychological side is not being neglected by him or the club, it's probably more important than the service he will get and the ability of the team to adapt to his style.

No way around it, he's been disappointing since the Spurs hat-trick and yes, losing the ball, like with Nwaneri and Myles, is putting him in Arteta's bad books.
You don't look at the mantelpiece when stoking the fire, and you certainly don't chat with the mantelpiece about its politics.
Or something.
Well put!
As for Eze, he's had loads of opportunities since the spurs game, and he's produced the square root of fuck all. He needs to break his Palace vibe of delivering once every 3-4 games, that's not enough at Arsenal.
I know Blogs, but as a horny teenager she was one of my fantasies, along with Raquel and Ursula. Sometimes you have to ignore people's politics to admire their beauty.

Raya was amazing and so were Rice and Odegaard.
Worrying though is our inability to manage games properly once we score. Also, Arteta's subs aren't quick enough.
His unwillingness to bring on Eze/Madueke doesn't fill me with confidence... Does Mikel not bring them because they lose possession at times?
Was all a pretence to get in the mid-nineties Arsenal team.
Brigitte Bardot was a far-right supporter for years. Icon, yes, but not someone with particularly nice views.
She wasn't French either.
I think Havertz, while imperfect, is much better than Gyokeres
Which is, as I said, an admission that we got it badly wrong, because we bought Gyökeres because it was generally accepted that Havertz was not good enough.

That surprises me,
Havertz is much more a forward than a midfielder for me
Yeah, but he wasn't really clinical and Arteta had him pegged fro the left 8 which is pretty much a midfielder role. As with Merino, Havertz has filled in. But he's not a centre-forward, though I hope that bulked up version that scored in the pre-season returns with some venom. I doubt it'll be enough though. Have to hope Gyökeres finds some form.

Alvarez at Man City was really impressive. His movement, his ability to elude defenders and his finishing were all overshadowed by Haaland’s brute strength and ability to finish too.
I’ve said for a long time that Martinelli could have been our Alvarez, but Arteta hardly ever deployed him that way. Emery did.
He switched with Jesus yesterday for 2 minutes and in those 2 minutes his CF running was just so natural. He slightly stopped up to draw out the defender, and then immediately ran in with pace to meet Saka’s cross.
Gyokeres needs to learn that. Havertz can do it but he’s more of a hybrid attacker.
Isn't it mad that despite a summer signing and a returned Brazil international people are still talking about a midfielder playing CF.
I don't see the Eze thing the way you do, but I do understand th...
It's really down to the fact that none of the three have the qualities you'd deem basic to be a striker. Havertz is a midfielder. Jesus is a winger. Gyökeres is a pure striker, but lacks pace, touch and reactions. Eze is more of an athlete than any of those three. His finishing is as good as any of those. His best quality is the final ball or beating a man to get a shot in.
As others have said, we bought Gyökeres because it was commonly accepted that Havertz and Jesus were not enough up top. Now that Gyökeres is struggling, fans are acting like Havertz and Jesus are gonna save our season. I think it's reasonable to be sceptical of that.
Hoping Gyökeres comes good, but in a choice between Martinelli or Eze as a CF, I think it's not so outlandish to go for Eze.
How odd - looked her up quite recently and was surprised she was still alive then.
Arse!
Fuck off Bruce! Also, HB Bruce Jnr.
All hail Raya!
Against Villa I would like to see Hincapie at L/B with Saliba/Gabriel and Timber if fit at R/B, the strongest back four available at the moment.
Midfield would be Zubi, Ode and Rice. If Timber has not recovered then Merino would likely start in place of Zubi or Rice.
Forward I would start with Martinelli, Jesus and Madueke. I know that sounds mad but they have pace and are direct in their play, that could unsettle a Villa side that are expecting us to play a slow build up trying to grind them down. You also have the option of Saka, Eze, Trossard and Gyokeres off the bench.
I feel that we need to start fast and hard and not let them settle into their shape. I would like to see us more direct and causing different problems for defences, the same as Liverpool used to play with relentless moving and direct running.
We are in danger of becoming stale and predictable of late and need to show we have options in play as well as personnel.
Tuesdays game against Villa could be a defining moment for this season. It could be the game where our luck runs out or we have a statement win by stuffing Villa and charge on. I'm looking forward to Havertz being back. Surely one of the 3 strikers can start firing in the goals!!
I'll be honest, I was thinking whether Eze might be adapted for that role. He can certainly finish, seems to be out of favour with Arteta at the moment.
Isn't it mad that despite a summer signing and a returned Brazil international people are still talking about a midfielder playing CF.
I don't see the Eze thing the way you do, but I do understand the wider concern about that position
Have we considered trying Declan Rice at centre forward?

WiB and happy 8th ti your young one!
Doctor's prescriptio for this Villa pestilence : bully Rogers abd Tielemans early on. Gang up on them and get physical, even rough them up as long as it's in their half and no silly cards. If we neutralize them, the threats they also have (Watkins, Malen McGinn) are mild and should be stranded in a sea of red and white players most times anyways.
Arse.
Rather stressful stuff, but at least we keep winning despite it all. James was fairly downbeat and anxious on his latest On The Whistle.
Raya's save was outstanding, he's so good. Rice is a bloody legend.
To be moaning in the stands when we are winning games, when we’re top of the league in spite of an ongoing injury crisis is frankly just weird.
Is it weird? Or is it typical of certain types of fans down the years. There are always those who support through thick and think and those who moan through all the failures. Why have a go at people who see the glass half empty? Isn't that also moaning? It seems to be sport to some to lay into doom Arsenal fans and blaming all our woes on them. Now, I think that's a little weird, so I do!

What you're saying is really instructive of the kind of selective magical belief that all defeats are the fault of fans and all victories are solely down to the skill and brilliance of the team and manager. Which is it? Or could it be a bit of both?
Don't forget that those couch potatoes who subscribe to Sky/TNT/Amazon etc also pay the wages of the brilliant sportsmen who are, as you said, playing to an extraordinary and consistent level over the past four years. They've played above them sir capacity thanks to amazing organisation and application of strategy from the manager.
As for City fans, they're no more or less fickle that any other fans, just that they have the best squad, the best striker and a serial winning manager who is arguably still the best in the business. And they have more money to spend, even as they're winning, with maybe Semenyo in January.
All that is a way of sticking it to the Arsenal fans who can feel that weight on their backs with good reason; City have done it before and can do it again.
What gets me far more than that is the way certain fans love to take pot shots at their own fans for not being more supportive, as if every fan can just turn on their confidence like a tap. The fans have to see something, like City can see it with Haaland and others starting to play for them now they're getting a rhythm.
We might be able to hold on this time, we may even get a second wind and start to play some football. But if we fail, it won't be because fans didn't believe enough, but because our players didn't deliver.
Faith is all good, plenty of doomer fans have got with the programme Tbh I'm tired of reading every time we start to falter as a team, the fans get blamed with the most vicious attacks. It's really shows who is deemed expendable in terms of insults.
Pool never beat Baldiola in a title race. The only way they beat him was either
a) get that big a lead that the bald cunt gives up quite early
b) capitalise on them having a truly shite season
The team has to do its part as well.

You can't compare man city to arsenal
Have they had seasons like 07/08, 13/14, 15/16, 22/23, 23/24 , where we either collapsed when the going got tough or dropped points in crunch games.
I don't blame the fans for being wound up about it happening again, and the only solution is for the players to go and win something big. Then maybe the fans will relax.
It's either that or the club finds a way to make the fans forget the past
Interesting that Odegaard's goal came from exactly the same area that he got most of his goals from when he had that heavy scoring season two seasons ago. Hopefully that reignites that skill.
He's been shooting noticeably more. Long may it continue.
The team has to do its part as well.
the team has been performing to an extraordinarily high level for four years now, something that is to me - admittedly not in the stadium but sitting on my fat arse at home while the elite sportsmen run around on my behalf while I try to draw vicarious enjoyment from them - is readily apparent. Fans may say in response to that “no trophy wahhhh” and, okay, fine, but perhaps react to minor setbacks at home with a bit more equanimity instead of transmitting the most malignant “we’re fucked everything’s fucked we’ll never win anything ever” energy possible, because it is axiomatically affecting the team in an adverse way. Do you think City fans react to minor setbacks with “oh noes we’re dooooooooomed”? (keep in mind what a pitiful laughing stock City were prior to the Thai takeover). No, they think “that’s annoying but also basically fine because we’re really good at football” which obtains for us as well. Be miserable after the game if you want (even if we win), but there is literally no point to transmitting negativity during the game, it is transparently self-defeating. We as fans need to be more disciplined, imo.
Interesting that Odegaard's goal came from exactly the same area that he got most of his goals from when he had that heavy scoring season two seasons ago. Hopefully that reignites that skill.

Well I'm in about the most positive part of the stadium you can imagine. There's a guy called Barry who keeps the chants going for 90 mins. My boys love to join in.
Morning blogger and bot.
Think we played well. Vik stronger in duels and I like that he got one of his massive shots away, almost killed the keeper.
I think it should have been a red card also.
Never a red unless high (I haven't seen it back). Out by the touchline with a covering defender.
To be moaning in the stands when we are winning games, when we’re top of the league in spite of an ongoing injury crisis is frankly just weird.
Exactly, Pontoon. And I come from a part of Ingerland where moaning is de rigueur.

They should just do what fans do and support their team through thick and thin and stop moaning.
This is what watching the invincibles felt like after a while. Shitting it about a record while grinding out wins (and draws)
Some people have short memories - I do get quite cross with the home fans switching off support when at the matches if we're not doing as well as we might. Has no-one told them that's when the team really need the support of the 12th man. Too much moaning nowadays. They should just put on their brown trousers and pull themselves together.

The team has to do its part as well. Until they show that they’re assured in the buildup fans can’t help but recognise a pattern that inevitably leads to City winning. To buck that trend, the Arsenal players will have to give the fans something to keep their minds on the title. Still top, only just, and Villa to visit. Fans can only do so much. It’s the players who have to play above themselves.

I’ve always seen Martinelli as a Center Forward and I was 100% sure he would connect with Saka’s cross… intelligent movement and pace, real shame he fluffed it. But his dynamic run showed up exactly what Gyokeres lacks. Jesus holding up the ball shows what Gyokeres lacks.
I really think Gyokeres needs the ball played through to his feet and then he’ll do something but he’s just not getting that service.
Yesterday, I thought he had his worst game for us. He was static and a bit sulky too. I understand his frustration but there was one point he decided to have a moan at Saka instead of focusing on the next play. He was poor yesterday.
Merino - did a bit of running but was largely ineffective in midfield, but Arteta seems to absolutely love him.
Baldiola leaving will also help

WiB
Finally a goal from Ødegaard -his first since May?!
Let’s mention Declan Rice’s run to take out 3 defenders to allow Ødegaard time and room to pick his spot instead of slamming a shot against a defender.
Rice was absolutely magnificent playing out of position. The leadership, the intelligence, the way he makes things happen.
Often these own goals have come because the delivery of the ball is absolutely pinpoint. Rice and Saka’s corners are whipped in so accurately and with such curve. They look like they’re heading for an Olimpico every time! Impressive.
It is an assault. Not a goal scoring opportunity maybe but way too much force.
Nope. He ran as hard as he could because he had to get there first. Big guy at full speed = forceful collision, but not excessive because it’s the bare minimum of what he had to do to get to win the ball. Not a red. Would be extremely angry if our keeper was red carded for that (and I suspect all Arsenal fans would be too)
the neurotic fatalism of the home fans is going to absolutely fuck us. it’s so bad. you can feel it on the other side of the world through the TV. It has to stop. We need to do our part, something like proactively and consciously channelling the spirit of 22/23, though I know it’s easier said than done. Otherwise we are just going to make things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves by channeling our doomer vibes to the team.
It's a weird one, because I don't think a keeper will ever get red for that, but if a defender made that kind of challenge, they'd think long and hard about it.

I know it was viewed as not preventing a goal scoring chance but it was a brutal challenge
the difference between Vik and Jesus was night and day. I'd rather have any one of our ex forwards than this guy. He's so far out of his depth, as he just bumbles around ineffectually, not finding space, not winning challenges, not meeting crosses - at least Martinelli was actually there to meet Saka's cross, even if he skied it
The force used seemed pretty excessive to me
I think it was clumsy more than anything, he didn't whack him with a swipe of his leg, just hung his leg out and clattered into him with his momentum

Yes, seems like a mini test of title credentials to me. If we play like we can, we can beat them.
But their ability to come strong late in games should worry us. We need efficiency up top
