It was never always about Arteta. A lot of it was about these players being ready to perform at the level required to win the title. Some of it was about depth and quality which we addressed. But some of it was about these players reaching that level of belief and conviction- sometimes the gaffer can't do that for you.

That game yesterday was absolutely a game we would have shown nerves in last season. I didn't detect any nerves whatsoever yesterday. If anything we showed supreme patience and confidence that eventually we would break them open. If you look at the Zubimendi mistake really that was probably a moment of overconfidence more than anything because we were in complete control. Even with them getting the Richarlison goal we came down and almost scored again- no nerves on display as we knew we were superior in every facet.

This team looks like champions- they are just a different animal this season. I can't see us letting up. The only possible failure point I can see is Rice getting injured as he is the only one where we don't have anything resembling like for like replacement.

I get it and again it’s for the most part not hate even in the angriest fan. I’ve always been on that side. It’s part of the emotional challenges I’ve had in my life and I see it in others. It means so much and some fans have the psychological resilience to “trust the process” many others don’t.

I get it’s frustrating for those that keep the faith. I’d just say that this perspective of self-assuredness is a privilege to hold. Tbh, I’m also now having to adjust to things starting to go our way (though we have so much football still to play and we know how things can change rapidly).

To be honest, this is keeping me going. I did have a wistful, nostalgic morning looking at all the celebrations in the stadium and in N5 and wished I was still living there. I live 60 miles or so away but feel like I’m in another world, but I’m praying like Eze to get through another tough winter with the hope of a springtime to return to the manor to celebrate in style with all Gooners, the calm collected ones and the anxious angry ones!

Let’s hope we’re all cheering come May!

Indeed! Spuds fans (and football fans around the world) will remember his (admittedly brilliant) rabona goal.

Only Arsenal fans will remember that he got sent off later in the game, and we turned it around to take all three points. It turned out to be a consolation goal, and ultimately he contributed to their defeat. XD

Not directed at you NB.

There’s been plenty of criticism from our own fans these last 12 months saying Mikel is out of his depth; too defensive, conservative and passive, risk averse; not the right man for the job, blah blah blah.

Last season was a blot for all number of reasons - squad depth wasn’t there to cover multiple injuries, key players missing, ludicrous red cards, pens, inconsistency etc.
I’m not excusing Mik from all of this, he has had to learn too. With the tough start we had he’s been accused of being too conservative again in the tough games and been ridiculed for it - ManU, Pool, Citeh (h) and at times we’ve had to work the horseshoe of death to find ways through the low block.

But look where we are now. This team is finding answers - Spitty has to eat humble pie for banging on about SetPieceFC struggling without BigGabi.

I’m not trying to be toxic, sorry, I just want people to remember their past fury now that Mikel is delivering (with the help of KSE and Berta).

One game at a time, as ever, but let’s also enjoy the moment!

Like NB I have been openly sceptical about Arteta but like NB that never translated to hate. I have to confess I didn’t think the owners would remain as faithful to him as long as they have and for that they deserve enormous credit. Watching them yesterday, admittedly against a poorish Spurs, I felt it was now inconceivable that we won’t finally win something this season.

Arse

It was an interesting performance, almost like a man who has been given the instruction "don't make it all about you, and don't fuck over Arsenal with a call you know is going to be questioned later", and more surprisingly, he listened to said instruction. I even saw him give Trossard a little fistbump apology for getting in his way when he was preparing to shoot.

Don't get me wrong, still a dodgy little twat that will doubtlessly do us over in future but for now at least he is minding his Ps and Qs.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call a foul in the opposition half (which wasn't even a foul or a yellow), an error that leads to a goal.

Yesterday, sure. Sunderland, that's garbage.

And the one against Liverpool, he was stopping them running through on goal, 9 times out of 10 that free kick ends up safe.

What does "Mikel haters" even mean? I'm honest enough to admit that I doubted Mikel from the outset, thought he was a rookie and even in moments last season thought he was too rigid. But I never "hated" him, just as I never "hated" Arsene Wenger even as I thought he'd stayed too long. It's only ever been about what I perceived (right or wrong) was good for the club and for us fans who love the club. Demeaning otherswith a self-important "haters" comments does nothing to bring unity to the club (but that unity is there, down to the wins, but also undoubtedly because Arteta nurtured and cultivated that connection. The progression has been immense, down to Arteta's single-minded approach and not forgetting the financial support from the Kroenkes and especially the final piece, an actual professional director of football in Berta who made those all important deals in the summer to take us to the next level. So, quite fine with admitting I got it wrong about Arteta - albeit we haven't won anything yet, though it's looking good. No need to insinuate hate that was never there.

Do you doubt the mentality of keeping feet on the ground with the manager we have and what he's instilled?

And, yeah, someone needed to mention it. Zubimendi is a visionary, great passing range, but getting dispossessed in key areas by being aggressively pressed is not for the first time. I got admonished for mentioning it last night, but it's all for the good and us getting over the finish line. He can and must improve on that.

The main thing that stands out for me is our summer spending has made losing players to injury no longer a major concern and precursor to a collapse but to an opportunity for players to bloom and show their worth.
We knew the quality of Eze and Zubimendi but I was impressed with Hincapié and the way he seamlessly slotted into Gabriels position and looked comfortable in the same way as Mosquera when he covered for Saliba.
Our defence is looking solid not just for starters but also back up, Saliba and Gabriel will know that they will have to keep playing at their peak or they might lose their place to these two.
What a fantastic headache for a manager to have.

Special message from my Tot'num supporting mate this morning:

"I HATE ALL GOONERS for what they’ve done to me on my special day (My birthday November 24).They could have spared me the ignominy and heartache by turning the score line the other way round.
Now my special day is a complete mess.
And coming to think of it they may end up doing the double (Champions League and the Premier League.)."

Morning, all. Well in, Pontus.

Tottenham were boiled, mashed, and roasted. They go to PSG this week so another opportunity for their melancholy followers to see another battering.

Big week ahead for us. If we win these two, I might start to feel cautiously optimistic...

They took 3 points from oil fc. So they have their uses.

Hello happy campers. Its cold out there.
But warm and fuzzy in the arsenal chat rooms.

Eze couldnt score for us against spurs all these years and made up for lost time.

Bless little neville and caraghers heart. They had hope when big gabi was ruled out. we couldnt score a set piece goal haha.
What will set piece fc do now

Taking considerably more than a minute to savour. Great performance. Timber mentioned, might not get mentioned as much but fans know how special he is.

And speaking of special, Eze just magical, God-given talent, those finishes, as you say, split-second adjustments and execution which, at this level, makes all the difference.

Well deserved, and against that lot. Perfect!
