Their options are Romania, Sweden, north Macedonia and Northern Ireland.
Oh, right, cheers, did they qualify via the Nations League?
It's all very confusing now, thought Wales had usurped them.
But then I read Wales would have had a chance via the Nations League anyway (if they hadn't pipped NM to second spot), like Sweden, bottom of their group, do.

Potter's name was forged in Sweden, took a team in the frozen north from Swedish division 4 up to 3,2,1 and then into the Europa League where they beat Arsenal at the Emirates!
If he sticks around - he's on a short term contract and will probably leave if they don't make the WC - I think he could do well with them in the long run (I hope so anyway)

Sweden is struggling bigtime right now, but you'd expect they'll have a bunch of players back by March and under my doppelganger Graham Potter could still prevail.

Can't take anything for granted, as Italy have gone out to North Macedonia and Sweden in the previous two play-offs (why always them?).

I don't really rate this Italian team, they don't have the fantasists of yesteryear, but at least Gattuso has the fighting spirit, so there's a chance for them to get through.

No promises, and I have no crystal ball, but if you could see ahead to April and we have all our players fit and are about to win the league title and ready for a final in the CL, would you take all the pain and frustration we're feeling now at these seemingly endless catalogue of injuries? We have cover as never before, we hopefully have our striker back for the NLD. I'm choosing to keep believing because with all the bad luck (and that sadistic looking so and so Michael Oliver reffing the NLD) we still have the best chance ever to win it. We have to keep the faith!

I didn't realise that the Gyökeres injury was a hamstring, I thought it was a more general muscle strain.

In any case, there's no use blaming anyone, it's just wasted energy. Arteta will have to decide who to pick for the next couple of months in Gabriel's position.

Mosquera seems a good choice, Calafiori is an option, but I think Hincapié carries that same South American passion and personality. He's younger and more raw. I worry he might incur yellows and reds, but if the more experiences players can keep him focused, he has that drive and energy which is similar in some ways to Gabriel, though obviously not the same aura which has been built up over several years.

Anyway, as you say, a discussion for the next few days leading up to the NLD.

For now, well done Scotland and well done Wales and Eire. I just hope Italy don't draw either of those two in the play-offs.

Three missed finals will certainly make history for all the wrong reasons!
